Live: Aboard the new Disney cruise

Jeff Gray liveblogs from his family vacation: Share your experiences and ask your questions about Disney vacations

  • Our cruise is coming to an end. Just getting ready for dinner, and hoping to catch one of the broadway-style shows. We were not cruise people, having never been on one before. We were also not really Disney people -- nothing against the mouse, but my sons could not have picked Donald Duck out of a police lineup until a few days ago. That, to say the least, has changed. We had a great time, no question. If cruises, and Disney, are your thing, you (and your kids) will probably love this. If not, you still can't help but marvel at the scale of the operation, and the almost totalitarian attention to detail. I'll have more to say in Globe Travel soon. But for now, this is the end of our cruise. We disembark tomorrow after an early breakfast. Then, it is back to reality..

  • Castaway Cay is a Disney-fied beach resort, with faux-aged corrugated metal washroom stalls in the beachside washrooms, all meticulously cleaned of course. But made to look rustic. It's a theme park version of reality, but it is heavenly. The water is that blue-green colour from travel brochures, the sand is manicured and groomed and white. There is, of course, a water park. But that can wait. We are happy on the beach, with the too-big-to-be-real white hulk of the Disney Fantasy just a few hundred metres away. Will send a picture when the wi-fi allows..
