Getting the impression Sousa and Takhar are both staying on the ballot. This could be a long day.
Hoskins' team is huddling in his booth, speaking earnestly
Eric Hoskins hinted (not subtly) in his speech that he would support either Pupatello or Wynne when he dropped off. We should find out soon which he chose.
Huge excitement as crowd waits for @DrEricHoskins to leave his Juliet balcony and decide which "she" to endorse #olpldr
The spot lights have just focused on Eric Hoskins' booth. It was dark before. Everyone's quieting down.
David Peterson, standing in Hoskins booth, gave Wynne's booth a thumbs-up
Eric Hoskins, cameras in his face, is trying to make his way to the stage.
And Wynne's crowd cheers!
This dude really has a flair for the dramatic.
Wynne's camp confirms Eric Hoskins has pledged his support to her leadership.
And @DrEricHoskins chooses @Kathleen_Wynne #olpldr
And @DrEricHoskins endorses @Kathleen_Wynne. Her camp erupts, Wynne walks halfway down stairs to embrace him
.@DrEricHoskins now sporting @Kathleen_Wynne campaign scarf #olpldr
Hoskins certainly ratcheted up the drama, walking halfway across the convention floor, only to turn around and walk back to @Kathleen_Wynne
No one else has dropped off for the second ballot. Voting begins shortly.
Whoa. We've got sudden Takhar movement toward Pupatello.
It's going to be hard not to wonder what Pupatello had to offer up to make this happen, when she desperately needed it to.
Harinder Takhar is leading his supporters across the floor towards Pupatello
Harinder Takhar has thrown his support to Sandra Pupatello
Harinder Takhar and @SandraPupatello are standing together on her booth. #onpoli
Not seeing many delegates moving in different directions from their defeated candidates, as of now.
A bit of a lull at the moment: second-ballot results aren't expected until after 3 p.m. #onpoli
This is the first Ontario Liberal leadership convention since 1996, so understandably it's a bit of a who's-who of party members. I just ran into both former premier David Peterson and former cabinet minister Jim Watson (now Ottawa's mayor) within a few minutes.
About a thousand protesters outside the convention have taken over two lanes of Carlton Street outside the Liberal leadership convention
As far as we know, Takhar missed the cutoff for having his name removed from the second ballot that delegates are now using to vote. He'll undoubtedly still get a few votes this round, but most should follow him to Sandra Pupatello.
Police have set up barricades to hold protesters back from the front doors. Another column of demonstartors is marching to join them
Protesters include elementary school teachers, union members and members of the horse-racing industry. #onpoli
The party has just announced that voting on the second ballot will only be open for another 10 minutes.
Overheard: a Pupatello supporter talking to a Takhar supporter.
Pupatello supporter: "You know he came over to our side?"
Takhar supporter: "Oh."
Protest outside the convention is wild. Thousands of people pressed up against the barricades, drumming and blowing horns. #onpoli
Outside the convention centre, protesters have closed Carlton Street. There's a mix of topics they're protesting: Bill 115 (the controversial teachers' bill), horse racing and windmills, to name a few.
A mix of elementary teachers, horse racing supporters and people who oppose wind farms are chanting "shame, shame, shame on the Liberals!"
The protest has shut down an entire block of Carlton and the 506 streetcar. #onpoli
