From AFP on the arrest of the alleged gunman:
Aurora police chief Dan Oates said police had arrested the alleged gunman and that there was “no evidence” of a second, after earlier reports of two gunmen.
Oates said the suspect had claimed to have explosives at his residence and that the apartment complex where he lived had been evacuated and was being searched.
Police spokesman Frank Fania told CNN the suspect was in his 20s, wearing body armor and armed with a rifle and two handguns, adding that he had set off some kind of smoke device in order to sow panic. -

More from the Associated Press:
Officers found the gunman near a car behind the theatre.
“A gas mask, rifle, handgun at least one additional weapon (were) found inside” he said.
The suspect was taken into custody, but no name was released. Oates said there’s no evidence of any other attackers. There was also no immediate word of any motive.
The suspect spoke of “possible explosives in his residence. We are dealing with that potential threat,” Oates said, without providing details on where that was. -
Here's a post on Reddit from a person who claims to have been in the theatre when the incident happened.:
"Boyfriend and I have evacuated safe and sound. The shooting began during a gunfight scene in the movie, and at first, we thought it was special effects when smoke rose up. When shots happened again and people began to run, we thought something was up. A guy ran in and shouted there was a gunman in the building, and the alarms to emergency evacuate started to go off.
"I now know what tear gas feels like. I've never had to 'get down' with a police officer screaming at us...I need an army of kitten photos stat." -
Hayden Miller was inside Theatre 16 when the shootings begun. Here's what he told KUSA-TV:
“Like little explosions going on and shortly after that we heard people screaming,” he said.
Hayden said at first he thought it was part of a louder movie next door. But then he saw “people hunched over leaving theater.” -

From Reuters:
One man told the NBC affiliate that he was in the adjacent theatre watching another screening of the Batman movie when he heard gunshots and the theater filled with thick, choking smoke.
He saw bullets holes in the wall, and some people in his theatre were wounded: “I heard moaning...they were in pain.” -

-
And again, more from Obama:
“My administration will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time,” he said, referring to the city adjacent to Denver where the shooting took place.
“We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded.”
“As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family.” -

Most of the deaths and injuries happened in Theatre 9 where the shootings started, but here is an eyewitness account from an adjacent theatre (again, via the Denver Post):
Salina Jordan, 19, was in Theater 8 and saw people hit in her theater. She said one girl was struck in cheek, others in stomach including a girl who looked to be around 9 years old.
Jordan said it sounded like firecrackers until someone ran into Theater 8 yelling "they're shooting out here!"
The police came running in, telling people to run out. Some police were carrying or dragging bodies, she said. -
